The complete guide to making the right choice

Three companies connect Tahiti to Paris: Air Tahiti Nui , Air France  et french bee They offer very different experiences: Polynesian atmosphere, long-haul comfort, à la carte services, loyalty programs, upgrade auctions, more or less seamless layovers… and of course, fares that vary depending on the season. This comprehensive guide offers a complete, clear, and practical comparison to help every traveler choose the airline that best suits their budget, travel style, and expectations.

1. How to get to Paris from the provinces depending on the airline?

Before flying to Tahiti, one often needs to to Paris from the ProvincesThe three companies offer very different solutions: national network, partnerships, low-cost, or self-configured journeys.

Air France — The simplest solution from the provinces

Air France is the airline more practical for travelers from the provinces. Its domestic network covers all major French cities: Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes, Strasbourg, Montpellier…
  • Direct flights to Paris CDG from most major cities.
  • Connections integrated into the same ticket all the way to Papeete.
  • Checked baggage all the way to the final destination.
  • Protection in case of delay or missed connection.
👉 It's the simplest, smoothest, and most secure delivery method.

Air Tahiti Nui — Via Air France or via TGV Air

ATN does not serve the Province directly, but offers two very practical solutions:
  • Partnership with Air France:  You can book a combined ticket Province → Paris → Papeete.
  • TGV Air:  Some cities (Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nantes, Rennes, Strasbourg) can be reached from Paris via a combined train + plane ticket.
👉 ATN offers comfortable and secure transportation thanks to agreements with Air France.

French Bee — Free travel or via Orly Connect

As a long-haul low-cost carrier, French Bee does not offer an integrated domestic network. Passengers must make their own way to Paris, but several options are available:
  • Low-cost flights to Paris Orly:  Transavia, easyJet, Volotea, etc.
  • TGV to Paris:  Arrival at Gare de Lyon or Montparnasse, then RER or taxi to Orly.
  • OrlyBus / OrlyVal:  for travellers arriving by train in Paris proper.
  • Orly Connect:  optimized correspondence service offered by French Bee (depending on the period).
👉 An economical but unprotected solution:  In the event of a delay to the train or domestic flight, French Bee is not responsible for the missed connection.

Quick summary

Company Route from the Provinces to Paris Correspondence protection
Air France  Integrated Air France domestic flights Yes (luggage all the way to Papeete)
Air Tahiti Nui  AF + TGV Air Partnership Yes (via combined ticket)
french bee  Train, low-cost, Orly Connect No (free routing)

2. International routes to Tahiti according to airlines

Once you arrive in Paris, the journey to Tahiti continues along different routes depending on the airline. All of them pass through the United States, but the stopovers are not all the same: some are rapids et purely technical, others are longer and involve more procedures.

Air Tahiti Nui — Via Los Angeles (LAX)

ATN operates via Los Angeles  with a so-called stopover technical We stay on the same plane, the stop is short, and the procedure has been optimized for years. It's the smoothest and most predictable route.
  • Short stopover (≈ 1h30 to 2h30)
  • No plane change
  • A well-established and quick process

Air France — Via Los Angeles (LAX)

Air France also uses LAX  with the same type of technical stopover. The operation is similar to that of ATN: fast, without changing aircraft, and perfectly controlled.
  • Technical stopover identical to ATN
  • Similar duration (≈ 1h30 to 2h30)
  • Very good consistency

French Bee — Via San Francisco (SFO)

French Bee transits through San Francisco Here, the stopover is operational  Sometimes there's a change of plane, sometimes a change of gate, sometimes additional security checks. The fog at SFO loves to play spoilsport, which often lengthens the total travel time.
  • Stopover sometimes longer (≈ 3 to 4 hours, sometimes more)
  • Sometimes a change of plane
  • More cumbersome procedures
  • The weather is often unpredictable (fog).

Comparative summary

Company Stop Type of stopover Total journey time
Air Tahiti Nui  Los Angeles (LAX) (Quick) technique ≈ 22–24 h
Air France  Los Angeles (LAX) (Quick) technique ≈ 22–24 h
french bee  San Francisco (SFO) Operational (long) ≈ 23–26 h
In summary, the difference in duration does not come from the flight itself, but from the type of stopover: LAX is optimized for fast transit, while SFO involves longer operations.

Why is the journey longer with French Bee?

The total travel time between Paris and Tahiti varies depending on the airline, mainly due to the type of stopover in the United States. Air Tahiti Nui and Air France use Los Angeles (LAX) with a quick technical stop, while French Bee transits through San Francisco (SFO) with a longer operational stopover.

Air Tahiti Nui and Air France: technical stopover in Los Angeles (LAX)

The two companies are making a so-called stopover technical  in Los Angeles. This type of stopover is designed to be quick and simple:
  • no change of plane;
  • streamlined procedures;
  • ground time is generally short (≈ 1h30 to 2h30);
  • a stable and optimized process for many years.
This organization allows for smooth transit and a relatively constant total travel time.

French Bee: operational stopover in San Francisco (SFO)

French Bee transits through San Francisco  with a stopover operational This type of stopover involves more procedures and can lead to variations in duration:
  • possibility of changing aircraft or boarding gate;
  • longer procedures (rotation, cleaning, checks);
  • ground time often higher (≈ 3 to 4 hours, sometimes more);
  • More variable weather conditions, including frequent fog in SFO.
These factors explain why the total journey with French Bee is generally longer and less predictable.

My experiences

✈️ Air Tahiti Nui:  I've never encountered any particular problems. Regular flights, a pleasant atmosphere, a consistently smooth experience from start to finish, and luggage always on the carousel upon arrival.

🧳 Air France, checked baggage:  I've arrived without my suitcases twice. Once in Tahiti, where I only got them back three days later. And once in Bordeaux, where I had to wait until the next day for them to be delivered.

⏱️ French Bee, significant delay:  the only major delay I've experienced was with French Bee, and it exceeded four hours. However, it was due to a bomb threat at the San Francisco terminal—an exceptional event beyond the airline's control.

3. Cabin baggage

Cabin baggage allowances vary depending on the airline and travel class. Here is a clear table for quick comparison.
Company Luggage Accessories Total weight
Air Tahiti Nui  1 cabin baggage 1 accessory 10 to 12 kg

Air France  Yes Depending on filling
french bee  Yes To Premium Blue (or Business Blue if the cabin is open)

✈️ My experiences — Why I recommend Bee Basic + auctions

After several flights with French Bee, I finally adopted a strategy that works really well: take a Bee Basic  ticket and then try an EasyUpgrade bid.

The Bee Basic already includes one cabin bag  and one checked bag  . If the bid is accepted, you upgrade to Premium Blue  with the comfort of the Premium cabin: wider seat, quieter atmosphere, meals included, priority boarding… in short, a real leap in quality for the flight.

And since baggage allowance depends on the original ticket, booking Bee Basic includes checked baggage  , eliminating the need to add it separately. Upgrading offers comfort, but Bee Basic ensures the security of your luggage.

In the end, this Bee Basic + auction  combination allows you to travel in excellent comfort for a very advantageous price  , while still having sufficient baggage allowance for a trip to Tahiti.

IA ORANA FRIENDS.

Your comment on French Bee is false and biased. I'm very surprised by your misleading comments, which hasn't been the case since I started following you.

The flight takes approximately 22.5 hours outbound and 21.5 hours return with French Bee. I've flown French Bee nine times and have never experienced a delay. Furthermore, you're not being objective by not mentioning the occasional strikes that affect Air France or Air Tahiti Nui but never French Bee!

Nana and have a lovely day.

A loyal reader.

Old man

We chose Air Tahiti Nui for our first trip and enjoyed the atmosphere on board. For our second trip, we chose Air France in Premium Economy; the extra cost was definitely worth it, and getting there from the provinces was easier.
