How many tourists have I seen at the airport with their hastily written postcards just before departure, running around chasing the postage stamp? What panic! Oh the dismay of these mainland French citizens when they realized that their pretty postcards from Polynesia were actually going to be mailed to Roissy or Orly! And yes, ladies and gentlemen tourists, here postage stamps are bought at the post office and only at the post office. So it's better to know this when going to the Fare Rata, in other words the local post office, to prevent your beautiful postcards from traveling... In your suitcases! It will cost you 170 Pacific francs, or the modest sum of 1,42 euros to send your card with a beautiful stamp from the local post office.
Prices are in Pacific francs. 1 euro is equivalent to 119,33 Pacific francs, and the exchange rate is fixed.

Hello Céline. Just a few days ago, someone was explaining their mishap on a forum. No stamps at the airport! Oh, if only they had known about Tahiti Pratique 😉
You can also find stamps at system2000, it's next to the airport, and there's much less queueing than at fare rata!
Thanks, Clémence. And is it open during flight departure times? Anyway, thanks for the info.
Great article!!👍
I would have enjoyed reading it a few years ago, it would have saved me from having to come home with my postcards! 😜🥴😂
Next time it will work 😉
Thank you for this valuable advice! Fare Rata, what beautiful sounds! It makes me want to learn Polynesian words 🙂
Hello Julie, and thank you for your message. Tahitian is a beautiful language, but it's difficult for a metropolitan French speaker to grasp all its subtleties. They have far fewer letters than we do in their alphabet, and they use a lot of facial expressions to differentiate between words that are identical.
I really didn't expect to read this. It's a great story to read that you should get stamps at the post office and not at the airport. Are there still people who send postcards from their vacation ☺️
Hello Soraya. Your question is relevant. But Tahiti is a special destination where postcards still make you dream. Thank you for your message 😎
