The full story of a park that finally opens after a three-year wait
After years of work, postponements, and public debate, the RiRi Point Park, in Toahotu (Tahiti Iti), finally opened its doors to the public on May 1, 2026. This opening marks the end of a long administrative saga, technical et policyand the beginning of a new life for an iconic site on the peninsula. Named during its inauguration, Te Hono Nui (the main link), it was stormed as soon as it opened.
The park was named on May 1, 2026
A project conceived for the Olympics… but which never opened before 2026
The development of Pointe RiRi begins in 2023, in the perspective of Paris 2024 Olympic Games, whose surfing events take place in TeahupooThe government then invested 1,7 billion CFP francs to transform this busy place into a modern park, with marina, restaurant, playground, fare pōte'e, car park et family spaces.
But despite the initial objective, the site:
has never been open to the public before 2026
did not serve as a fan zone for the Olympics, contrary to the original plan
The land and sea works, carried out by the Tourism Department and the Equipment Directorate, are experiencing delays due to:
de larainy season
de difficulties in coordination between companies
de modifications during construction
2023–2025: Three years of construction and a decisive public service delegation
The site remains Closed since March 2023Once the main works are completed, the government launches a public service delegation (DSP) to find a manager.
Le 20th June 2025The Official Journal officially confirms the company's choice Haumea Mana, chaired by Heia Heyman, as the park's concessionaire.
This administrative step is crucial: without a manager, it's impossible to open.

le restaurant must be completely renovated (extensions, cladding, anti-mara'amu windows)
un administrative premises must be added
la beach adjustments are needed, but no additional budget is allocated
Security requires Do not open during construction
Result: oOpening postponed to May 1, 2026that is, more than three years after the initial closure of the natural park.

A Fare Metua
In the heart of Te Hono Nui Park, the creation of a fare metua (parents' house) marks a strong symbolic milestone for the Presqu'île. Designed as a transmission space and rassemblementThis traditional house will offer a space dedicated to elders, ancestral knowledge, and community moments. It reflects the desire to make the park not only a recreational space, but also a vibrant cultural hubwhere Polynesian values, respect, the sharing et continuityfind a concrete expression that is accessible to all.
These floating water games These inflatables will bring a playful and refreshing touch to Te Hono Nui Park. A separate fishing area, still pending.
Nearby, an area dedicated to fishing has a slipwayBut she is not part of the DSPThis explains its irregular maintenance. A call for tenders is planned to clarify its management.
